Faroe island: Shores of Blood- Η ΜΕΓΑΛΗ ΣΦΑΓΗ

Whale Warrior Revolution: Shores of Blood

This is how they kill whales and dolphins...

The Faroese celebrate the butchery in a festive atmosphere. Even children are given a day off school to take part in the entertainment.

THE SIGHTING

When a school of pilot whales has been sighted, drive hunters relay the message via mobile phone and other methods of communication to the inhabitants of the island involved to gather a large number of people and boats for the slaughter.

THE CHASE

Spectators -- women, children and men of all ages -- line the shoreline with tremendous enthusiasm, to watch the biggest bloody show on the Faroe island.

Boats and jet skis gather behind the school of pilot whales in a wide semi-circle to drive them towards the shallows, usually a bay or the end of a fjord.

After a lengthy chase, the whales, confused, terrified, exhausted, are eventually beached close to the shore.

THE SLAUGHTER

Faroese hunters rush into the shallows and hack into the living flesh of each whale, stabbing in the blubber with a sharp metal hook, called a gaff (in Faroese: sóknarongul), repeatedly, until the hooks hold, to pull them ashore.

The they slash through through the blubber and flesh, cutting the dorsal area through to the spinal cord with a 15 cm whaling knife, a grindaknívur. Then the main blood vessels are severed.

Whales cry out in pain and anguish. Babies separated from mothers. Family members witnessing family members slowly die.

Horribly mutilated and dying whales emerge in the blood-stained killing bays.

In the end, the killing bay is soon filled with horribly mutilated and dead whales. The surrounding sea turns a bloody red.

All this with no regard for the cetacean intelligence of these beings, sophisticated communication skills and social interaction, how they care for their young...

Their natural affinity toward humans...

And their helplessness to defend themselves against our barbaric ways.

Lets' take a stand for dolphins and whales. Join our cause's Whale Warrior Revolution!
